My Smart Home

Welcome to My Smart Home! This is where I share the details of my smart home setup, starting with the core of it all: Home Assistant. Although I started with a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and later upgraded to a Pi 4, I now run Home Assistant on a Small Form Factor (SFF) PC using Proxmox. This setup provides fast and reliable performance, thanks to an NVMe drive for storage, and offers the flexibility of virtualization for running additional services alongside Home Assistant.

That said, a Raspberry Pi 4 or a Raspberry Pi 5 is more than enough to get started, and even for a relatively large setup, it’s a powerful and cost-effective solution. Whether you’re just beginning or expanding your smart home, the Pi 4 or Pi 5 remains a solid choice for managing your devices and automations. I would, however, recommend using a solid state drive as SD cards are prone to failure due to the constant read/write operations required by Home Assistant.

There are many aspects to a smart home and I’ve taken the time to break these down into a few more managable categories that you will find below.
